Visibility, Authority, Influence…
Create something that matters and surround yourself with people who are interested.
“What is a writer platform?”
“Why do I need one?”
“Once I figure out what it is, how do I get one?”
Got some questions? You’ve come to the right place!
Literary success without a platform is quickly becoming a thing of the past.
Publishing houses are increasingly unable to promote the thousands of books they publish and self-publishing has lost its taboo.
Anybody can publish and have influence, depending on how effective they are at creating some kind of value and getting it in front of the right eyeballs.
The word platform simply describes all the ways you are visible and appealing to your future, potential, or actual readership.
~ Christina Katz, The Prosperous Writer
Your platform makes all the difference in the success or failure of your book. The bigger your reach, the more books you are likely to sell.
It’s that simple.
The responsibility has shifted. As an author, you now have more control and more opportunity than ever before.
Does this shift feel like increased control and opportunity for most writers?
Not really.
In fact, it can feel like a monumental time suck to build a blog, tweet, volunteer for interviews, create newsletters, podcasts and videos, write guest posts or host speaking engagements.
Writers just want to write.
But the reality is, if you are a writer in the 21st century, you must work hard on your craft AND on your platform.

So what do you need to know in order to build a strong and successful platform?
Platform doesn’t merely mean online presence. It’s about building quality relationships, strong connections and sincere engagement with your audience, online and off. It’s about:
…increasing your visibility, your authority and your influence.
~ Jane Friedman, Being Human at Electric Speed
And by making yourself visible to potential readers, you are making yourself more attractive to agents and publishers, too.
Authors with platforms sell books.
Quality platforms take time and personal investment. So it’s important to get your platform started now.
I can help.
At Your Writer Platform my goal is to help you clarify why you write and teach you how to align yourself with those that care about your work.
Why?
Because I have been exactly where you are now, struggling to learn the technology, the business and the industry. Spinning my wheels, trying to piece together some sort of strategy from a multitude of sources.
It was difficult and the learning curve was incredibly steep.
With the tools and inspiration readily available, building your platform over time can be relatively painless–and as creative a project as any work you produce.
I’ll do all the heavy lifting (you’re welcome!), and provide you only the most useful resources, tips and strategies for building a strong and successful author platform. From setting up your WordPress site and capitalizing on social media to establishing your message and the image you portray to the world.
Who you are and what you do matters.

About Kimberley (Official Bio)

A Canadian writer and entrepreneur, Kimberley Grabas launched YourWriterPlatform.com in February 2013, where she helps a growing international community of thousands of rising “authorpreneurs” build their platforms, engage their fans and sell more books.
With a degree in Business, over 14 years in sales & marketing, and a purpose-driven passion to help writers build an audience around their work, Kimberley has built a go-to resource for authors struggling to gain visibility in a crowded market.
The Background
I have been an avid reader all my life, but only in the last few years have I had the audacity to call myself a writer.
I had always thought that “one day” I would write a book or two–particularly for children–but it can be surprisingly easy to let life talk you out of the things you really want.
That “one day” finally came. Contemplating being a writer was no longer enough for me, so I started to take action.
But, with my abundant experience in sales and marketing, I couldn’t help but bring a bit of my old world into my relatively new writing career. That’s how the concept for Your Writer Platform was born.
For three years, I devoured everything I could on how to market and promote my work, build community engagement and develop a presence online. Over time, I came to the following conclusions:
- The way we promote, market and sell has changed. We no longer need to push; we need to attract.
- A writing ‘career’ requires both the creative and the business mind.
- Don’t hoard creativity; sharing increases both its flow and value.
- Don’t fight technology, it has teeth. Trying to avoid it only encourages it to bite!
The Future
The remodel of the writing industry is a gift. Embrace it! The opportunities for writers, musicians, artists–all creative entrepreneurs–are everywhere.
The potential is enormous. The possibilities, exponential.
This is an amazing time to be a writer.
I am grabbing hold with both hands.
